Although there is some room for disagreement among those that call themselves "Christians" (Romans 14:1-15:7; 2 Timothy 2:23-24; Titus 3:9), NoisyStreets.com considers the following to be essential convictions of the Christian faith: 1. The Bible (including both the Old and New Testament) is the true written word of God. The Bible is the ultimate authority on all matters to which it speaks. (Psalm 19:7-11; 2 Timothy 3:16-17; 2 Peter 1:20-21) 2. There is one all-powerful, eternal, and perfect God who exists as three persons: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. (Genesis 1:26-27; Deuteronomy 6:4; Matthew 3:16-17) 3. Jesus Christ is fully man and fully God. He lived a sinless life and offered himself as the only perfect sacrifice for the sins of all mankind by dying on a cross. He rose physically from the dead and will someday return again to reign forever with those who are His. (Matthew 1:18-25; John 1:14; Acts 1:9-11; Colossians 1:15-17) 4. Mankind was created in the image of God, but we are all imperfect and are in need of God's salvation. (Genesis 1:26; Romans 5:12-19; Ephesians 2:1-3, 4:18-19) 5. Salvation, here on Earth and the life to come, comes only through relationship with Jesus Christ. No one enters Heaven except through Him. His salvation is a freely available gift of grace. It is not something that we deserve or that we can earn. (John 3:16, 14:6; Romans 3:28; Galatians 3:26-27; Ephesians 2:8-9; 1 Timothy 2:5-6) |
